Great things happening in Orange and Seminole Counties.

It's been a hectic past month as and we head into September and the final quarter of 2018 it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

I continue to settle into my new role at ECPI University and have been spending the majority of the time spreading the word about our Department of Homeland Security endorsed Bachelor Degree in Networking and Cyber Security by involving myself in the happenings here in Seminole County, Orange Counties neighbor to the north. I am uncovering some incredible tech events and organizations.

First I want to thank Rachel Dobbs for asking me to play a part in the council for the Seminole Tech Association. I am eager to get involved and play a part in bolstering the community. I attended my first meet up as part of the council last night and it played well with my current responsibilities at ECPI as the topic of discussion was Cyber Security. Panelists Ron Nation of RYN Software, Regine Bonneau of RB Advisory and Ron Frechette of Gold Sky spoke about the need to educate ourselves and our associates about taking precaution to secure our personal and company data while being mindful of what we do and say out there. The tone was often scary but extremely insightful. I encourage anyone involved in tech to attend this group which meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Seminole State Campus off International PKWY in Lake Mary, only a quick 12 miles from downtown Orlando.

I also had chance to attend my first meeting as a member of the Advisory Board to an incredible High School in Sanford, The Crooms Academy of Information Technology. The technology being taught in this school is IMO second the the real life preparation they provide their students for entry into the University or work place culture. Many Universities would do well to heed the practices they employ for Career Services, resume and interviewing prep. I had the pleasure of a full school tour by two Seniors and members of their Ambassador program Zachary and Omar. Great job Gentleman. Your knowledge and poise are going to serve you well in the future. I look forward to working with you on your upcoming Tech Fest which I am really excited about. Game Dev friends, I am looking for support for this event in the form of sponsorships, speakers and donations. Lets talk.

I will ask the same for the next event. I had the pleasure of meeting Bradon and Caleb from Alorica, a tech support and Business Management group with a location in Lake Mary at the Central Florida Employment Council Job Fair and they told me about this upcoming tournament which will take place next week. Looks like a lot of fun. If you have prizes you would like to donate hit me me back and I can get you in touch with Caleb.

Of course I would be remiss if I didn't plug my gang at Indienomicon and the Orlando Game Space and remind you all about this weekends Indie Galactic Space Jam. This is the 5th year people. What are you waiting for. Festivities kick off Thursday night, Holy S#@% that's tonight. Good luck with this years event boys. Choove and Kunal continue to make it happen with these awesome events.

Lastly, The first official Lake Mary Campus class of Networking and Cyber Security kicked off last week with Orientation. It's been great to have these folks on campus and passing by the classr5oom each day it appears that they are having lots of fun. The next cohort starts October 1st so if you have any questions or know someone who does send them my way. The University has been going for over 50 years but we are new to Orlando and I could really use the help of my network to help spread the word. Thanks nice people.

Orlando iX was a blast once again this year and Digital Orlando is right around the corner. I met so many new people and got to spend some time with a few old pals as well. I secured an interview with Falcons Creative Group and we recorded it for This Is Orlando episode 16 will is in post now. Hope to have it live by end of next week so stay tuned.

As always, if you need me, I am standing by. P.S. Aren't Mark and Mitch cute?!
